Self-care

Self-care is the term used to describe time that we use to deliberately take care of ourselves including our physical, mental and emotional health – a simple (yet often over looked) factor in daily life.

Self-care is vital to improving and or maintaining a positive mood, mindset & energy and keep negativity at bay.

Self-care can be (and should) be used by everyone – regardless of the existence (or lack of) physical, mental or emotional health issues.

If we don’t maintain some level of self-care (even if we’re not aware of it) we can be jeopardising our relationship with ourselves and others.

Self-care is like re-charging our own physical, mental and emotional batteries – just like electronics if you keep putting out a lot of energy using your full capacity you use up all you can give a lot quicker and become burnt-out.  We’re no good to anyone – ourselves or others if we have nothing left to give.

This is exactly why self-care is not selfish!

You’ve probably basically been practicing self-care without even realising it!

Your down time, watching your favourite films on Netflix, having a colourful bubble bath or a having a face-masks/spa night in – they all count if they help you feel relaxed, better and/or more positive – HOWEVER, it probably hasn’t really been quite as effective as self-care as it could be. Now you’re aware, you can be mindful as to what you want to gain from doing these things.

It is also recommended that you add more self-care activities to your routine – set yourself a weekly self-care time. Ensure you feel that the self-care activities you choose to practice are enjoyable and you see them as taking care of yourself – rather than a chore (as that would be less rewarding).

Pretty Positivity hopes to provide more in-depth self-care activity ideas and experiences among our blog posts at regular intervals and we are happy to hear from you as to what you would like from us – or if you wish to share any of your own tips!
